TRAVEL TUESDAY… Golden, BC – Nature’s Playground

Beautiful and friendly Golden, BC is located just outside of Banff National Park at the confluence of the Columbia and Kicking Horse Rivers. The town is surrounded by three mountain ranges (Rocky, Purcell and Selkirk) and FIVE National Parks.  It is about a 3-hour drive from Calgary International Airport, but rewards with breathtaking views along the way.

Golden is home-base for the outdoorsman/woman playground that is British Columbia, Canada. Summers welcome mountain bikers, white water rafters, wildlife enthusiasts, hikers/heli-hikers, canoers, and kayakers; and winters welcome cross-country and downhill skiers, heli-skiers, and snowmobilers.  Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is also home to “Grizzly Bear Refuge,” the world’s largest enclosed and protected grizzly bear habitat, and the home of orphaned “Boo,” the bear.

Although I’m DEFINITELY NOT the ‘outdoorsey-type,’ I’ve found every trip to this area to be a beautiful experience.  You cannot beat the natural beauty of the surrounding areas or the warmth of Golden’s inhabitants! (I admit, I AM somewhat biased as I have special family and friends in the area, but …)

Here are a few photos from my most recent visits, including our amazing visit this past weekend with “Boo.”

For a day-trip, just a short hour away from Golden, through glorious scenery, you’ll find Emerald Lake and Takakkaw Falls in Yoho National Park.
